Explorers

Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Explorer Unit, with support and guidance from their leaders. The section also includes the opportunity to take part in the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections, developing many of their skills.

The Explorer Unit a District run Scout section, although they are often attached to individual groups. Explorers is for young people aged between 14½ and 18.

Activities

There is a wider scope for adventurous activities like offshore sailing, parascending, mountaineering, and expeditions, as well as campaigning and performing.

As an Explorer Scout in Surrey Heath, you are able to attend any of the four different unit meetings each week, as they will all do different activities, as well as take part in regular District Explorer meetings, challenges, and camps. There are also a number of badges and awards that Explorer Scouts can gain to recognise their achievements.
