Lesley CurrantDistrict Commissioner
I love Scouting and what it does for young people, I’m a Queen’s Guide from Manchester, and I joined Venture Scouts at 16. I loved the adventure of flinging your rucksack into a van and going off to camp in the Lake District on a Friday evening.
Since moving to Surrey Heath in 1996 I was involved with the West End Scout Group as a Leader of a Cub Pack, an Explorer Unit and I was also GSL for 10 years. I’ve helped run Beavers and Scouts in my time there too.
As a district Explorer Scout Unit Leader for 7 years, I’ve also been a Young Leader advisor & trainer, and a District Executive Committee member.
I’ve been the DC for several years now, and I’m always learning something new!
Scouting has provided some very memorable moments for me, amazing trips and I’ve met some brilliant, fascinating people. It’s also driven me to grow and develop as a person, so that I can help others.
Adrianne GoronDistrict Youth Commissioner / District Communications Manager - Media
I come from a Scouting family and started Beavers at 1st Frimley Scout Group when I was 6. I moved through each of the sections, and then went to uni to study music journalism. I would help out with Scouts when I was around, but really missed regular Scouting. When I moved back to Frimley I jumped back in, and am now a Scout Leader.
I’ve been a District Youth Commissioner since June 2017, which I love doing. We have so many brilliant things going on around the District, and it’s great hearing all about what the young people enjoy, and their big ideas for how to make things better!
I am also the District Media Manager, where I get to put my uni skills to good use – running our social media pages, creating content for the website, designing promotional materials, and taking lots of photos at events.
Leigh ThomasAssistant District Commissioner (Beaver Scouts)
I have been Scouting 6 years, starting as an Assistant Beaver Scout Leader (ABSL), then becoming Beaver Scout Leader (BSL) at 1st Lightwater where I still run an active Colony. I became Assistant District Commissioner (ADC) Beavers in November 2017, and with the help of a fantastic cadre of Beaver Leaders in Surrey Heath, we strive to get all our Sections working together as a District, providing a (very) robust, fun and diverse range of activities. I’m immensely proud of all my friends in Scouting, my Beaver Team and our Beavers.
I work full time, and am married with four children. I have been accused of not taking myself seriously…
