2023 World Scout Jamboree – Korea

Date: 1st Dec 2021 Author: Adrianne Goron

A World Scout Jamboree is a world Scouting event for young people aged between 14 and 18 and is a gathering of Scouts and Guides from all over the world for an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, fun and friendship.

It takes place every four years in a different country. The first World Scout Jamboree took place in England in 1920 and since then 24 such events have been held.

The 25th World Scout Jamboree will be held in Saemanguem, South Korea. The Korea Scout Association was founded in the year 1922 and is now the largest youth organization in South Korea. South Korea also hosted the 17th Jamboree in 1991.

Could you join the team heading off on this adventure?

There are two Units heading to the Jamboree from Surrey, and each will be made up of 4 leaders and 36 young people. We are very lucky to have had two of our leaders selected – Graham and Adrianne are both Assistant Unit Leaders with Unit 72. We also have three places for Scouts and Explorers, and one of those could be you!

The system for selecting participants has changed from previous years, and after much thought, this time participants across the county will be selected by random ballot. This means that everyone that puts their name forward has an equal chance of being selected as anyone else.

In January 2022 the Surrey International Team will host a number of meetings to tell you about this World Scout Jamboree.  They will also make sure you hear all about other international trips that are available. Rather than attend a selection weekend, you need to join one of these meetings in order to apply for a spot in the random ballot.  You will need to sign up before Friday 7th January.

  • 10th January – St Giles’ and St George’s, Ashtead – 7pm
  • 11th January – Virtual Zoom Meeting – 7pm
  • 12th January – Emmanuel Church, Guildford – 7pm

Address and parking details will be shared closer to the meetings, once you are registered.

If this sounds like something you would like to find out more information about, visit the county website below. There is lots of information about the application process, the unit leaders, frequently asked questions, and much more.
