Face to face Scouting Suspended in Surrey Heath due to Coronavirus

Date: 24th Mar 2020 Author: Scout Websites

All section meetings, events, and camps have been cancelled in Surrey Heath for the time being. Here is a statement from our District Commissioner, Lesley:

“Hi everyone,

In the light of today’s Government Bulletin, I am formally suspending ALL Scouting activities in Surrey Heath that are face to face. This includes all Section Meetings, Leader Meetings and any trips/camps.

Today I have taken phone calls about both youth members and leaders in Surrey Heath who are self-isolating due to possible Covid-19 symptoms. It’s clear that this is a very serious situation, and we as Scout Leaders and members of our local communities need to recognise that Scouting cannot be considered ‘essential’.

I appreciate that some parents may not agree, please refer them to today’s Government bulletin and the NHS guidelines. If there are any problems, please ask your GSLs and ADCs for support.

I am hopeful that the quicker we can achieve social distancing the more effectively this virus can be brought under control. By halting Scout activities we are demonstrating how serious this issue is.

As ever, I am available for support, please feel free to contact me if needed.

I will let you know when we can begin to offer Scouting Section Meetings and other activities again within our District.

Take care and stay safe,

District Commissioner
Surrey Heath Scouts”

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
